23/12/2021The Greater One Dwells in You
‘You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. ‘ I John 4:4
There has been a clear deficit in Christians reaching out to people who have never heard the gospel ever before. We as Christians should not be surprised if they are worshiping dumb idols, still practice sacrifice or have extremally strange ideology. Regardless of the current condition of the unreached we should never be intimidated or feel inferior in any way as the Word (the Bible) clearly tells us that the Greater One, the Holy Spirit dwells in the believer & says we have overcome them (those against God in nature). God has put us in such a position of victory we can focus on loving & demonstrating the gospel in word & deed.
The Greek word for greater is – μείζων meízōn – which means great, strong, large. Greater, more, older*
The Holy Spirit is greater, stronger, larger & more then ‘.. he who is in the world’ (the devil), we have every reason to boldly witness & face every opportunity in confidence with the Holy Spirit dwelling on the inside.
He lives in you on purpose
The Holy Spirit has been given to every believer on purpose & for a God given purpose. He has been given to us to face every situation in life, to put forth such ability in us that miracles, signs & wonders are common place. He is not living on the inside of us so we can just ask His advice every now & then but He is on the inside of us to intimately navigate every aspect of life together with us. He knows we live in an earthen vessel & face many weaknesses, shortcomings & frailties, He is living in us to take hold of these things together with us to put us in a place of the overcomer.
Here is a Scripture that speaks about the help of the Holy Spirit:
‘Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. ‘ – Romans 8:26
He helps us in our weaknesses! Weakness is a qualifier not a disqualifier, weakness means we have need for the help of the Holy Spirit, we are eligible for His help & dynamic power. Why are so many Christians weak & powerless? They don’t draw on the great Resource abiding on the inside. If we are experiencing weakness rather than power we need to ask ourselves why? The Holy Spirit & the Word are not the issue, we can eliminate those being the issue, He is no respecter of persons. We need to examine ourselves: What are we not doing? What are we doing that we shouldn’t be doing?
The Holy Spirit is ready & willing to help, to support, to aid, to co-operate with us like someone who would help us lift a heavy desk we can’t move on our own. What do we do when we are faced with a task such as lifting a desk up stairs? We could stay at the bottom of the stairs with the desk & complain that we can’t do it or we can call on someone for help. Likewise we can call on the Holy Spirit for His help, willing & able He will immediately come to our help.
The Greek word for help is – συναντιλαμβάνομαι sunantilambánomai; together, to support, help, to assist someone, to help, aid, to come to the aid of someone, to help in work, cooperate.*
This describes how the Holy Spirit comes along side together with us against the obstacle to aid us, co-operating together with us to overcome weakness.
Let’s have a look at how to activate His help as God is moved by faith not need, faith is God’s language so receive the help & empowerment by faith, He is always faithful to do His part.
Put a demand on His ability in you
- We need to be in communion/fellowship with the Holy Spirit to put a demand on this unlimited Resource living within us .
- Talk with Him in the morning, develop a habit of talking to Him the moment you wake up.
- Talk with Him during the day.
- Talk with Him when you face difficult & hard to deal with situations.
- We need to pray & speak what God in His Word (the Bible) says the Holy Spirit will do in, with & through us.
- Look through the Bible to see what the Holy Spirit does in & through the people of God.
- Study John 14, John 16 & any other Scriptures on the Holy Spirit to get a firm understanding of His ministry.
- Regardless of how you feel, start to speak what the Holy Spirit is doing in you, Who He is & what He will do through you.
- We need to develop a God inside mindedness
- Practice being aware of God’s Presence, stop, get still & think about how He dwells in you.
- Thank the Holy Spirit for abiding in you forever (John 14:15) & never leaving nor forsaking you (Hebrews 13:5).
What can you do today to put a demand on the Holy Spirit, He is waiting!
